چکیده

In recent years there has been an increased interest in bacteriocins, primarily among the lactic acid bacteria, as a result of their applications in food preservation. There has been very little research on the occurrence of bacteriocin production among anaerobic bacteria. Recently, we reported a high incidence of bacteriocin-like inhibitory activity in isolates of the rumen anaerobe Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens: half of the tested butyrivibrio isolates produced bacteriocin-like inhibitory activity, with activities against a wide range of rumen and pathogenic food isolates. We have examined the structure and expression of two of these rumen bacteriocins, butyrivibriocin AR10 and butyrivibriocin OR79A, which represent two structurally different families of bacteriocins. We are also examining the incidence, activities, and structures of bacteriocin-like activities among other groups of rumen bacteria. Our present knowledge of the incidence, characteristics, and range of activity of bacteriocins among the rumen bacteria suggests that bacteriocin production and resistance may play an important role in interand intraspecific competition in the densely and diversely populated rumen environment. They may also serve as agents for the directed manipulation of rumen microbial populations.

Rumen Microbial Community of Saanen Goats Adapted to a High-Fiber Diet in the Northeast of Iran

Swiss Saanen goat is a widespread breed frequently found in commercial herds across the world. The present study aimed to identify the rumen microbial community of exotic Saanen goats adapted to a fibrous diet using barcoded pyrosequencing. Rumen content samples were collected from the four animals via a stomach tube after the morning graze and freeze-dried for DNA extraction. Bacterial and arc...

Bacteriocins: evolution, ecology, and application.

Microbes produce an extraordinary array of microbial defense systems. These include classical antibiotics, metabolic by-products, lytic agents, numerous types of protein exotoxins, and bacteriocins. The abundance and diversity of this potent arsenal of weapons are clear. Less clear are their evolutionary origins and the role they play in mediating microbial interactions. The goal of this review...

The Effects of Use Medicinal Plants on Rumen Fermentation Parameters in Ruminants

Rumen is a persistent and specific ecosystem consists of bacteria, protozoa and fungus where feed fermentation takes place in it. Produced Hydrogen in rumen can be used in the synthesis of the volatile fatty acids and the microbial protein and its excess would be eliminated through the production of Methane by methanogenesis. Nutritionists have tried to find ways to decrease loss and energy and...
